Despite working with technology professionally, I have always been cautious embracing it in my personal life. I came late to the world of smartphones and social media — and swift to jettison the latter too. And so it is that I have been a late adopter of AI.

As all around me rushed to try ChatGPT when it first emerged, I held back dismissing the AI goldrush as hype. I’m the type who must wait for platforms to mature before rushing in head first, and perhaps I’m wise in doing so.

In hanging back, I allowed early models to improve enough to be useful to me. I could have joined the first wave, contributing to the flood of substandard content just because. But now? With models now more powerful and accurate, I can see its potential to help me, and so I am beginning to embrace it myself.

The late adopter belatedly finds himself in awe.
