Today, I set my status to Do not disturb. I set up an automatic reply to explain I am focusing on a delivery this week. I even announced my intentions on the team chat.

But it didn’t make any difference. All day long, my colleagues still pinged me and flooded my inbox, seeking guidance on something or other.

Some of them the needy, asking questions they could just as easily have googled themselves. Others surprising, like a server engineer seeking guidance on setting up — wait for it — a server.

In the end, I barely touched my own work, which made me feel doubly guilty. Am I an extreme procrastinator, or am I just easily distracted? It’s so hard to tell. Perhaps I just revel in all the distractions because it keeps me from the work I hate.
