Today, I saw a job, supposedly graded the same band as mine, but paid over £10,000 more.
In brackets, after that salary, it included these words: “Inclusive of 20% recruitment and retention premium.”
The key giveaway this is a high stress position, which sees a high turnover of employees.
Or, as the guidance has it: additional pay to address something approaching the going market rate for the required skills.
Every now and then, I feel the urge to check the job market. But it never lasts very long. “Better the devil you know,” I ultimately conclude.
It’s hard to find a job with better conditions than I have, even if they offer significantly more pay.
I don’t really want extra stress, in exchange for a bit more money, quickly diminished by a lengthy daily commute.
Nope, I think I’ll just make do with what I have.
