So many atheists deciding they’re Cultural Christians. Mostly, it seems, to stand in opposition to the Muslims.
But bad news: the Muslims can out-Christian most Cultural Christians.
For we believe in One God, the maker of heavens and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
We believe in the person English Christians call Jesus, as a prophet, and revere his mother as the best of women.
We believe in the prophets of the Old Testament. Moses is the most frequently mentioned prophet in the Quran, followed by Abraham, Noah, Joseph, and Lot.
We believe in leading a prayerful life and in spending our wealth on the poor as charity. We believe in family and the institution of marriage.
Read the biblical Epistle of James, and you will discover many a Muslim teaching. Read many a parable from the Gospels, and you will find us in agreement.
We believe in the Day of Judgment, and in Heaven and Hell. We believe that God will forgive the sins of all who sincerely repent, and that all who perform good deeds will be recompensed in full.
We differ with the Christian in that we do not believe in the Trinity, or that Jesus is either God or the son of God.
Nevertheless, our closeness to Christianity is much stronger than the new-fangled Cultural Christian who denies everything sacred, embracing nothing but a word and a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
Genuine Christians are not compelled to embrace us, but they should know we will honour them far more than any New Atheist ever will.
