Those that make the decisions for funding in our organisations really have no idea how much work is involved in fulfilling our statutory obligations.
Here I am, late on a Friday evening, long after everyone else has logged off, editing the closed captions required by law for a series of videos.
Even with the aid of automated transcription services, it’s a time-consuming, manual process, demanding relentless attention to detail.
Is this my job? In as much as accessibility legislation applies to our organisation as a whole, meaning somebody has to do this. I could have said it’s not my responsibility, but that’s not my style.
So where now? Well, onwards until the task is complete. One video down, eight more to go.
Why not leave it for Monday morning? Because on Monday I have my actual job to do, not to mention numerous calls for help from others. After this, I have a presentation to prepare.
So I’ll plough on into the evening, for however long it takes. There is no other way. Alas, the decision makers have no plans to properly resource their own organisation.
