Are we the worst parents in the world? That’s certainly what our children think. And sometimes I think maybe they’re right.

This thing called parenting is hard. We thought the early years were tough, but adolescence is something else.

It’s sad, but I dread the summer holidays. Six weeks of the same refrain, constantly repeated over and over.

It’s either two siblings fighting and bickering all day long, or an alliance of siblings uniting with parents in their sights.

They are deprived. We are restrictive. They are bored. We are boring. They are hilarious. We the butt of jokes.

Legend has it that one day, all of this will pass. Our children will become our friends, having grown-up conversations, and may even be moved to say sorry.

But right now, such days seem a long way off. We have to survive the summer first. Or even just the next few days.

May God grant us strength and patience, make us the best parents we could be, and let us not fail in this task.
