Momentarily, it occurs me: I could do an apprenticeship.

A means of rebooting my career, and making up for the mistakes of my youth.

But those thoughts are fleeting, for I still doubt my cognitive abilities.

In any case, the shiny, happy people in the brochures don’t look like me.

And, well, the comforts I currently enjoy are unmatched, however it looks to others.

So, instead, I focus on another long-term aspiration.

To open an idyllic bed-and-breakfast on a countryside retreat far, far away.

Yes, to quit all this, when the kids are settled, and live a different kind of life.

If the Most Merciful wills, that is. God alone knows what really awaits us.
