Today, a colleague sent an email complaining about me, and accidentally copied me in.
I replied with profuse apologies for missing their last email, but pointed out that they had not in fact chased up multiple times as they claimed to their colleague.
In fact, I said, I have always been responsive to their requests, as I am with all 150+ of my regular internal customers.
“I didn’t mean to come across as rude,” they replied soon afterwards.
Though reading the email back to themselves, they would surely have concluded it was very rude indeed.
Still, it had its effect. There’s one small task chopped off the mammoth to-do list. One mishap at a time.
