In the end, people will believe whatever they want to believe. In one workplace a few years ago, my colleagues insisted on telling me what I believed. When I told them that was not in fact the case, they insisted on telling me I was wrong anyway.

Jabbing at their newspaper, they told me that I was mistaken. It did not seem to occur to them, even for a moment, that there might be a political slant to the news they consumed, which resulted in the tabloid of their choice publishing made-up facts whenever it suited their agenda.

When people have already decided what they want to believe, no fact can change their mind. Therefore, don’t sweat the rising tide of uninformed comment all around. It’s best just to log off and tune out. Disengage to stay sane.
