Naturally it’s thoughts of work more than the stifling heat that keeps me from sleep tonight.

My mind is running into hyperactive overdrive thanks to the unyielding assault of just two days back at work.

Gone that positivity at the start of the year as I submitted a business case I thought was a no brainer in helping us to meet our obligations.

Now I just fall back on a decade of broken promises and cuts, realising that nothing will ever change here.

It’s easy to see why there’s a recruitment crisis right across public services: the workforce is expected to do ever more with ever less, until everything simply breaks.

And so it has come to be: everything is broken.
