The house we have here is around three times the size of our semi back home. That’s not to say this is a big house. By Turkish standards, it’s pretty average.
In reality, many British houses are simply tiny, at least on one end of the spectrum. On the other end, of course, you could fit our entire downstairs floor plan into the living room of a grand suburban house.
We once received guests from Turkey back home. I remember how they walked straight from the front door to the back room, as if they were just traversing the hall, and were surprised to discover that was it. That was all the space we had.
Our house will certainly feel tiny again when we get back home, but we will get used to it soon enough. That is our real life, here just make believe. Home is where the heart is, no matter how small or constricted it may be.
