Where were the khutbahs on the desecration of the Quran when men were strapping high explosives to their bodies, walking into packed mosques and detonating their charges, ripping to shreds worshipers at prayer, their place of worship and all of its contents, over and over for two decades?
In each sacrilegious act, both the message of the Quran and a multitude of bound mushaf were desecrated by those men of minuscule faith. And we men of minuscule faith shrugged our shoulders, said nothing, and carried on.
No impassioned speech at Friday prayer, demanding we take a stance against such barbarity. For we too desecrate the Book by ignoring its injunctions, paying lip service to the defence of what is sacred. In short, we have abandoned it, just as the Quran itself foretells.
And the Messenger will say, “O my Lord, indeed my people have abandoned this Qur’an”
