For decades, we have been fed a continuous diet of indoctrination which dehumanises whole peoples. Usually these people originate in regions of the world where we have key strategic interests.
If we are to wage wars to secure resources imperative to sustaining our way of life, it does us no good to speak of their civilisation and culture, of great architecture or literature, of millennia of learning or beautiful art.
To sell our forever-wars, we must first dehumanise them completely, painting a picture of backwardness and barbarity, until even the people believe it themselves. And so it has come to pass.
