See how the world has changed in just a few short years. It used to be that I’d spend Sunday mornings sitting with a teacher in his home, setting off early to drive forty minutes across counties in search of beneficial knowledge.
But now we log onto Teams at ten in the morning for a two-hour lesson with students scattered all over. Always a beneficial lesson, synthesizing ancient wisdom with knowledge of microbiology and computing.
To sit in the physical presence of the learned is of course an experience unmatched. But these modern methods have their benefits too, freeing up the time of both teacher and student to spend more time with their families, or engage in other activities.
In some senses, it is the best of both worlds. In any case, it makes physical meetings all the more special. Perhaps we’ll make more of those moments, rather than taking them for granted.
We should never cease to learn, by whatever means. A teacher steeped in profound learning, old and new, is a blessing unmatched. Seek… and you shall find.
