One argument against the Samsung Z-Flip: no DeX mode. It’s surprising how useful this feature is, particularly if you have a nomadic lifestyle.
Both my phone and my wife’s tablet can be connected to an external display, keyboard and mouse, to provide a functional desktop experience.
If you’re already lugging around a work laptop, you don’t really want to carry another one. So a mobile device than can convert into a desktop is pretty helpful.
If at some stage I felt the need to upgrade my S8 — and, yes, our daughter did just ask again if she could get my phone for her birthday — I guess it makes more sense to get a refurbished DeX-capable phone than a cute ultraportable.
Then again, rumour has it the Flip5 will support it — so perhaps patience is simply in order. That should be heavily discounted refurbished six months post-release, all being well. The perpetual onward march of progress…
