So years of tinkering have finally born fruit. After hours spent trying and failing to set up the prerequisites for a CMS based on the Django web framework locally on my Mac, I finally had a lightbulb moment. That was after toying with Docker as a potential workaround.
“Sod this,” I thought in the end, “let me just mint a fresh Linux VM and get this over with.”
It took the length of video call supporting a SharePoint user for the disk image to download and install in the background. As for getting the CMS up and running in a web browser in that virtual machine? About half an hour, all in. So easy.
So I guess we’re evaluating this framework in Linux from here on. No bad thing. I’d live in that desktop environment if there were any decent graphics applications available. As it is, I must continue to switch between different operating systems according to need.
Yes, I’m a true tech nerd. Wasted on this place.
