In every nation there are those striving for peace, and those striving for war. If you must pick a side, choose those who are truly striving for peace. To work out who is who, you must open your eyes, and resist the collective amnesia demanded of us.

To strive for peace doesn’t mean to shrink away, insistent on a pacifism which gives in to tyranny and refuses to resist. It means to actively pursue peace as the ultimate outcome. Hence that divine rejoinder: resist those alone that fight you, but do not transgress the limits, and if they incline to peace, likewise incline to peace.

Today is really no different from any other time. In every nation we discover mischief-makers, who pretend to be peacemakers while sending their armies into far-off lands in pursuit of whatever end best suits their strategic objectives. Those with vested interests in war will make war, whatever the cost.

It is up to those who value truth and goodness to resist the warmonger, whoever and wherever they be. You’re not asked to pick a team — to side on partisan lines with an ethnic group, sectarian fraternity, political party — but to stand up for truth and justice alone. In the words of our Book: “Even against yourselves!”
