Apple says, “Here’s to the misfits.”
But in truth, most who use their products today are the opposite: the cool, the popular, the teeming masses.
Rarely the type to think different.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that.
I’m just saying that Apple would never feature lifelong misfits in their adverts other than to lampoon them.
Indeed, that was precisely the point of their famous Mac vs PC ads of the late 2000s.
Nerds like me were the butt of the joke then, as Apple sought to position itself as platform of the non-misfit.
“Wow, you’re taking this very personally!”
Yes, it’s true. As a life-long misfit, I notice these things.
I have always resided on the periphery of everything, from my community, to online spaces, and even my own family.
I’m an ill-fitting part wherever I go.
A tired lament?
No, not at all. As Apple once said: “Here’s to the misfits.”
