I’m getting to a point where I’m no longer looking at building a team, but looking to fulfil the needed roles using generative AI. Slowly, slowly, I’m becoming a convert.

Before anyone says to me, “You’re putting people out of work,” let me point out that there is no funding for those roles in the first place. Given a choice between a £300 annual subscription versus a minimum £30K investment in personnel, it’s clear which option Finance will prioritise. Bad for some, no doubt, but that’s the reality on the ground.

On saving our organisation £20K in the space of a week, a colleague commented, “That could have funded your apprentice.” But, of course, it couldn’t because it was never on the cards. Why? Because there’s no money left in the system at all.
