Standing four metres from the cash machine, a woman smiles at the Big Issue seller outside the supermarket.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have any cash on me,” she tells him, “Do you take card?”
We’ve become a people with no common sense at all. But the friendly vendor is unphased.
“God bless you,” he replies, seemingly grateful that she at least engaged with him. Better than nothing, he probably thought.
It turns out the Big Issue now supports their sellers to take cashless payments. Perhaps next time, he will be ready.
