Speakers Corner is not the world. It’s a bubble.

A friend used to pull me along in 1999. I hated it through and through.

Perhaps, as is well known by now, that was because I am not a speaker. Even less so then.

It’s the kind of place which attracts the worst kind of believers of every faith or none.

Arrogant zealots, in common parlance, who have not yet let faith begin to reform their heart and soul.

In those days, you could avoid such folk by simply withdrawing.

But, alas, today they have spilled out onto the web, bringing their torrid preaching to us.

There’s no escaping them anymore, with their simplistic apologetics, intertwined with prejudice and propaganda.

Zealots of every faith railing against caricatures of their opponents — mostly informed by the zealots they interact with there.

Do any of them ever interact with ordinary folk? It doesn’t seem so.

No, they are stuck in a bubble. A bubble, unfortunately, they now insist on bringing to the world.
