I find the excessive praise of work colleagues for the simplest of tasks really odd.
These are jobs I could almost do with my eyes closed. To me, inconsequential everyday actions.
To the latest round of undue praise, I simply respond, “It’s nothing.”
But, alas, the bar has been set really low. The fact that I am readily responsive to requests is somehow remarkable.
My attention to detail is somehow unusual. The fact that if they ask me they know it will get done is apparently extraordinary.
But, of course, it’s not. That should be the minimal level of service of any employee. Nothing that warrants these exaggerated ripostes.
Perhaps it’s time to raise the bar.
