So the self-declared patriots descend on London today to march for their freedom.
Freedom from what? The Islamist Invasion, they say, utterly convinced by their own made-up facts.
Who will tell them that the top three non-British nationalities resident in the United Kingdom are Polish, Indian and Irish?
The top five non-EU nationalities are Indian, Nigerian, Chinese, Pakistani and Ukrainian.
The number of refugees and asylum seekers in the United Kingdom is almost negligible — about 0.5% of the population.
No but, no but, the invading hordes!
You mean the hundred thousand granted Skilled Worker visas to work in health and care as a result of domestic recruitment shortfalls?
Or the nearly five hundred thousand on overseas students’ visas, contributing over £40 billion to the UK economy?
No, no, the Islamist hordes! The Great Replacement! The extremist scourge! The Grooming Gangs! The Hate Marchers! They’re taking over!
No, they’re not. Sixty percent of the UK population identify as Christian. A quarter practice no religion at all. Just five percent identify as Muslim.
Far from taking over, they’re disproportionately likely to be impacted by deep poverty, marginalised at every level of British society. Most are too busy striving to make ends meet to be plotting the downfall of the West.
If British patriots truly want to make a difference, let them invest in education and pursue employment in national services experiencing catastrophic skills shortages.
Set out a positive vision for the easily-agitated, so quick to believe the fictions they insist on telling themselves. Who knows what mass movement you might spark.
