Sometimes, I don’t know why I start things. In this case, tinkering with Linux to revive an old laptop. I’ve tried so many distros and flavours through the years that you’d think I’d have learned my lesson by now.

But no. In just one evening I’ve been through Manjaro, Mint Xfce and Ubuntu Budgie, all to no avail. Bootloader strife. WiFi strife. Fan noise strife. To what end?

I thought I’d be able to leave the computer at our place in Türkiye, for occasional use. But after a fruitless evening, I conclude that I’ll just have to park that idea and return the laptop to the cupboard from which it came.

I should just have left it well alone. If only I had impulse control.
