This work has the potential to make me hate my job.
But, of course, this isn’t my job. This is just something extra thrown at me on top, to keep me from my actual work.
But, again, I am not unique here. I know senior clinical service managers forced to cover nursing shifts.
Everybody is doing the extra, not part of their job. And they resent it too.
These extras make us hate our jobs. They’re what cause us to ponder quitting.
We bring these stresses home with us. There’s no escaping them. We’ve made our work our life. We can’t turn off.
We feel duty-bound to deliver even these extras, for no financial reward nor recognition.
And so we will. Well, until it breaks us, anyway.
