While awaiting news of a safe arrival this evening, I recalled the night I got stuck in a six-hour traffic jam after arriving in Istanbul from London.

That was for a 10km journey from the airport to our apartment, which would usually only take fifteen minutes. Just not on the eve of Eid.

Istanbul is no city for driving. A recollection usually recalled only when stuck in another traffic jam. Better to take the metro, we might assume, though how we do not know.

Anyway, all is well. We made contact eventually with the weary travellers, much delayed. It’s been a very long day indeed.
