I wish I had known about apprenticeships in my day. Or graduate trainee schemes. Or, well, career pathways in general.
But, let’s face it, I was in no mental state to pursue any of those then, weighed down by bodily weakness and lethargy as I was.
So let me forget about the missed opportunities of my own career, and instead invest my efforts in the upcoming generation.
I am determined now to mentor those disadvantaged by the disruption caused by covid responses, whose opportunities were so cruelly upended.
If I succeed at nothing else, I pray I am enabled to support an apprenticeship for the one who approaches me, asking. I pray I don’t fail in this task.
