The tragedy with all these politicians and commentators that talk about antisemitism is that by their actions they reveal they don’t understand why we talk about antisemitism.
None of them seem capable of reflecting that it was rhetoric like their own, and the constant vitriol against a minority community — in this case the Jewish population of Europe — which culminated in the murder and expulsion of millions of them.
Indeed the parallels are horrific, as we watch history repeating a century on, only with a different minority in a different state. The words on the lips of the respectable are both depressing and frightening.
Won’t somebody throw cooling water on these frenzied flames?
