I toy with returning to Windows as my desktop ecosystem of choice. I always was a Windows man, before one of my previous managers converted me, helped along by my dad.
A Dell XPS or Surface Laptop might suit me very nicely, I sometimes think, although it’s more likely I’d be offered some scruffy Dell Latitude designed for basic office tasks.
Generally speaking, I’m platform agnostic. I can happily switch between Windows, MacOS and Linux with ease, and still get my work done.
If there is an impediment to switching back, it is thermal performance. The joy of my Mac — seven years old, at this point — is its cool and near silent operation. The only time I ever hear fan noise at all is when I have to spin up Windows in a virtual machine.
That right there turns out to be my sole remaining reason keeping me from making the return migration to Windowsland. The fear that a constantly whirring fan attempting futilely to cool a cooking chassis will send me around the bend.
