Our lad knocks on my door. “What you doing?” he asks, pushing on in.

“Trying to fix something not working,” I say, pointing at the open console on one screen, and my code editor on the other.

“You haven’t been downstairs for ages,” he mutters.

It’s nice to be missed, I think to myself. If I was down there, would I get this attention? Probably not.

“This is why you need to study hard,” I tell him. “So you can understand all this stuff.”

I’ve been at it for hours, but just can’t get it working. I’ve picked up a few typos already that wouldn’t have helped. I expect another one is the culprit, but I just can’t see it.

Time to give it a break and come back to it in the morning. I expect it will jump out at me then and I’ll just kick myself with an audible, “Doh!”

Until then, I’ll prepare for a restless night of code-filled dreams.
