Following a calamitous catastrophe, you could have occupied the moral high ground.

You could have said, “We don’t want any other to go through what we’ve been through, or any other to suffer as we have suffered.”

But instead you decided that you would respond to barbarism with more barbarism, multiplied over and over.

Driven to madness by the unquenchable thirst for revenge, you chose to respond to war crimes with yet more war crimes.

The moral imperative has been cast into the deepest abyss. From here, there is no way back.
