Ours is an organisation which squanders talent. It provides people with nowhere to go if they reach the top of their pay grade: no opportunities for promotion.

In the end they simply leave, and in their place we are left only with duds. Alas, I’ve seen this over and over. All the truly excellent employees have long moved on. There was nothing anyone could offer them to convince them to stay.

I should probably be amongst them, having outgrown my role years ago, fed up with the state of affairs. But I seem to have carved out a niche for myself, serving the left-behinds. So much so that I’m part of the furniture.

For the younger ones there’s still such a thing as career development. I just need a steady income to support a growing family. Two different goals. Our great talent is wasting talent, over and over again.
