Fed up. I have large projects to focus on, with far-reaching impacts. But instead I’m doing tasks that people could once complete independently, but no longer seem willing or able to.

If I put in a bid for funding at the start of the year for a team to help us meet our obligations, now I realise we’ve actually moved backwards. We’re heading in the opposite direction, as my singular role is expected to absorb ever more from the team I’ve joined, the extra funding never materialising.

A great use of my time covering for the admin they didn’t recruit, or for the officer they did recruit who hasn’t the requisite skills, or for the senior manager who consistently delegates what they could do themselves.

Maybe I will return to my old service, and stop trying so hard to make things better. It feels like a lost cause. Now we’re just dredging the barrel.
