When it comes to work, there are calculations to be made. Job satisfaction vs life satisfaction, for example. Perhaps the job doesn’t really stimulate you, but you may have other considerations.

Years ago, the journey to work consisted of taking a train into Central London. It’s easy to forget those energy-sapping waits and packed carriages, returning home with itchy skin and black snot

Later on, slow journeys by car in stop-start traffic, requiring early starts and late arrival home. I can’t really say I miss any of that. So who am to complain about job satisfaction, when really I have been granted so much ease?

I think two hours gardening with my kids after work more than compensates for any sense of inferiority or inadequacy. It’s all a matter of perspective.
