Beware: when your opponents have nothing to pin on you, they will simply manufacture the evidence. For the astute, such evidence is easily debunked, but sadly few are those concerned with verifying the information they are presented with.
If they want you to fall, you will fall, and no lone voice protesting your innocence having investigated the facts can help you. This is the rule of the mob. The cynical only need to throw a scrap to the ground, and the ravaging wolves will devour it and everything in their path in one go.
There is no point appealing to their conscience, or the centrality of truthfulness to faith, for they have neither. They are serving other masters, who insist you must be brought low. And in that they will do whatever it takes, by any means. Is it any wonder that Abu Dharr lived and died alone, that stalwart witness to truth?
