Is London’s planned extension to its ultra low emissions zone as bad as it sounds for private drivers?
Whenever I travel into London, I make a habit of double checking that my car is compliant.
The way it’s described, you’d think you have to upgrade your car to a £50,000 Tesla or £30,000 hybrid.
But, no, my twelve year-old compact crossover petrol SUV easily qualifies as an ultra low emission vehicle.
Granted, that may not be the case for commercial vehicles like vans and taxis. For small business owners and freelance delivery drivers, there will be a significant financial hit.
But for the rest of us? It sounds more like fear mongering than a legitimate concern. The real travesty is the unavailablity of residential parking.
You may travel across boroughs to visit friends with ease, but good luck finding somewhere to park your car. You may as well take the train.
