Not for us is it to judge whether the public persona, humble and contrite, is real and true.

Not for us to peer into another’s heart and comment on what it contains within.

Not for us to comment on their relationship with their Lord, on the sincerity of their repentance or the outcome of inner reform.

If we ourselves are sincere, then we may pray, “May Allah rectify all of their affairs.”

If it is the sin we hate and not the sinner, we may say, “May Allah pour out mercy upon them.”

If we want for our brother what we want for ourselves, we may utter, “May Allah make us all sincere.”

May the one humble in public be humble in private too. May the one full of contrition in front of others be so when unseen.

May their heart only seek goodness. May it seek to make amends. May the one humbled be humble.

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk humbly upon the earth, who when the ignorant address them say, “Peace!”

Quran 25:63

May God make all of us humble, always willing and ready to make amends, sincere in faith and true.
