Halfway through the summer school holidays and it seems as if we may be at breaking point already.

We have three unpredictable children in our midst: two teenagers and an elderly parent with dementia.

By now all three are behaving equally badly, pushing us to our limits. If we’re not careful, it will break us.

In term time, the long summer holiday seems like a good idea. We yearn for it for months on end.

But once it arrives and is in full swing: that’s when everything seems to fall apart.

It’s a testing time for parents. We joke that we’ll need a holiday when the holidays are over, but it’s less humour than truth.

The truth is, this break is breaking us.
