I took my parents to town for a spot of lunch this afternoon. As I stepped out of the taxi, someone took me by the arm, greeting me like a long-lost friend.
It took me a moment to twig as to who he was, and why he was speaking English. Yes, of course, friends from London.
We chatted briefly, marveling at the wondrous happenstance of us being in the exact same place, at the exact same time.
Our two boys chatted too, mooting the possibility of hanging out some time. To them, this crossing of paths 2,660 miles from home completely ordinary.
I’ve given up asking, “What are the chances of that?” If your paths are meant to cross, they absolutely will.
