An economist for the Bank of England suggests we should all just accept that we’re going to be poorer from now on. Accepted wisdom, I suppose. Only, that’s not the universal state of affairs.
Those at the bottom of the pile are forever being told that there’s no way in the world they can obtain higher wages: they’re just going to have to get used to it.
Those at the top, meanwhile, are revelling in a different kind of existence altogether, reaping gargantuan profits, living the high life, completely out of touch with the common experience.
There is no evidence that those up there intend to accept that we’re going to he poorer from now on. There is no “we’re all in it together.” This “us and them.”
These are the grotesque times we live in, as billionaires tell those living on the edge to simply accept their lot. No wonder the powerful forever seek to quash revolutionary movements that strive to bring about a more egalitarian society.
Billions pumped into propaganda painting the poor and disenfranchised as the enemies of civilisation, prosperity and progress. Just accept it: you’re going to be poorer from now on.
