It’s best not to take yourself too seriously, for in a little while nobody will recall a thing you did.

Witness your life at work: you may have more or less single-handedly pioneered a new platform, driven a project forward and seen it through to completion.

But does anyone now remember any of it? Does anyone now credit you for the work you did, for enabling new ways of working? Not a bit of it. It is all forgotten.

And so it is in life in general. Little we do has any real impact on others. Friends come and go, and ultimately forget us. Good deeds once done have fluttered away in the wind. Conversations once exchanged not even a memory.

This is life. So do your best within your realm, but don’t sweat it. Relax. Be content in your station. It never pays to take yourself too seriously.
