Prioritise what the Quran prioritises, not what popularism holds to be important. Focussing on the latter will just carry you down a rabbit hole, distracting from what is essential. Focus first on constructing firm foundations.
The Quran prioritises justice, being fair in trade, looking after orphans, feeding the poor, being kind, merciful and humble, resisting tyranny and shunning sectarianism. Here is a list of instructions derived from this Book.
Be as logical in your approach to life and faith as you would be in the workplace. Start with a robust framework, and let it underpin all that follows. For every facet that needs to change or improve, treat it as an individual task, and move forward incrementally.
Start as you are: where you are. You’re not required to blank the canvas, become an empty shell, yourself removed, embracing a puritanical ethos which shuns all things. You are what you are. What’s required is incremental, evolutionary change which will make an impact in the long run.
Be organised, identify what truly needs to change, and focus on each in a consistent, methodical fashion. Always keep in mind the ultimate aim. Our faith is an active path towards being safe and healthy. If you’re not moving in that direction, you’ll need to recalibrate your compass.
Focus on what the Quran prioritises, not on every whim that falls from your advisors’ tongue. Put everything in the right order, avoiding the side issues which preoccupy so many. Above all, seek God’s help and guidance always.
