I was the first person to think the best of a stranger in our midst, even when I had no reason to. I was the first to defend them from mockery too, though for that my friends lambasted me. I also thought the best of them the longest, even as the decades flowed past. I have always thought the best of them, and always will.

Perhaps their critique of me was true and fair. Perhaps their criticism was necessary, in order that a seed might be planted in my heart. This stranger, lost in time, still recalled in the thoughts and prayers of one intent on thinking the best of them, whatever whispers land in his ear.

The One hears my prayers for the stranger. May the Lord of the universe and all the worlds grant what is best for them and make them content with their provision, whatever it be and however it lands.
