In my runaway imagination, in years to come I will build our own private hamam in the basement. Opposite a biomass furnace, I will tile the walls and install a mini pool and spa. As I say, I have a hyperactive imagination.

At present, it just serves as a makeshift barn and garage, given over to storing wood and making hay for our neighbour’s cows. But in our grand vision for escaping the drudgery of a career in IT, this becomes the cafe of a tea garden for restless locals seeking to flee the heat of the town.

With sea views and a cool breeze, it’s the perfect spot for afternoons of conversation and companionship. One day, maybe. Well, it’s good to have dreams to work towards, some time in a decade or so, if the Most Merciful wills.
