Talk to your children, if you can. Encourage them to open up about their feelings, and listen to them.
Easier said than done, admittedly; we’re at the stage now where our kids just perpetually blast us every time we open our mouthes. But still, it’s the principle: be there for them, so they know they can speak to you if they need to. Don’t let all interactions be about nothing more than schoolwork, grades and behaviour.
This is probably common sense to most people, but looking back on my own youth, I remember just being unable to express my feelings about any troubling situation to anyone. That’s why I took up writing, I suppose, but I wouldn’t recommend that avenue, personally.
Just talk about things. Talk it over.
