It’s very easy to say to yourself, “Don’t grieve over the past.” Much harder to do. Daily, I am plagued by whispers petitioning me to look back to those moments when I should have been setting foundations for the present.

Still, those days are done. My job now to help our kids make better decisions. They have an advantage I didn’t. They have a parent forever mindful of his missteps.

Already they are making the progress I didn’t. Already, they know what they are aiming towards. Hopefully they won’t repeat my mistakes.

Hopefully, they will put down firm foundations.
