We say:

“So you are telling us that hundreds of Muslim scholars participated in a vast and successful conspiracy to divert people from the truth?”

And yet this is exactly the same argument we posit for every other community of faith, as we spout our own special wisdom about the vast and successful conspiracy of the early church fathers, culminating in the Council of Nicaea, to willingly divert people from the truth.

We are a special case, of course, unlike the scholars of the faithful before us. Thus do we ignore the verses of our own Book.

“O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert them from the way of God. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of God — give them tidings of a painful punishment.” — Qur’an 9:34

No, but it’s better to cite Occam’s razor than the Qur’an in our own defence. We stand firm in our faith in the giants that preceded us, for the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.

Thank goodness we are not like the earlier peoples!
