It is as much an extreme to always believe that an alleged victim is telling the truth, as it is to always believe that they are lying. Sadly people demonstrate those extremes all the time. Where is the nuance; the case-by-case approach? Justice demands that we evaluate each individual case on its merits, not fall into the trap of judging all against predefined prejudices. Justice demands that all available evidence is gathered from all parties, and then a ruling is derived from that testimony. To automatically believe, without reason to, that the accused is guilty as charged is just as extreme as to automatically believe them to be innocent. Are we really a people of these two extremes, or are we the people of the middle way?
