My beloved charges me with teaching our and a friend’s children all that they must know of their religion. But each time I open the books they have inherited from previous teachers, I close them again repulsed. A book on beliefs is filled with information that are not beliefs at all. Verses of the Book that first guided me are nowhere to be found, replaced with obscure narrations instead. I am not on the path of the authors of those books. Where a work inspiring and profound, capable of stirring them towards a good life? If I must teach, it will be a peculiar lesson, delving far from all they have learned so far. Reflections on verses of the Book, perhaps, and on the world outside the window. To remind them: “Not for nought was all this created.” And after that, all guidance is from Allah.
