Banned from UK

By Timothy Bowes with 2 reader notes

So once more our anti-Muslim friends are busy blogging (or rather pasting news articles into their posts) about the ban on Geert Wilders entering the UK. It’s just one more example of the move towards dhimitude, they say. How outrageous, they complain. This is a sop to the Muslims who are taking over this country [...]

Of a mole hill

By Timothy Bowes

The third lead story on the BBC News website this afternoon reads, Head quits in Muslim assembly row. The tagline reads, ‘A head teacher resigns after parents complain about her plans to scrap separate assemblies for Muslim children.’

They matter too

By Timothy Bowes with one reader note

Up to 300 civilians have been killed and more than 1,100 injured in heavy fighting between government troops and fighters from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in northern Sri Lanka. Jacques de Maio, the head of Red Cross operations for South Asia, said: “People are being caught in the crossfire, hospitals and ambulances have been [...]

Sharia Compliant Junk

By Timothy Bowes with one reader note

The latest in a long line of Muslim junk-mail hitting my inbox is Cordoba Gold, “The Sharia compliant MasterCard”. Very nice, but I am getting rather tired of “ethical” Muslim companies that think they can help themselves to my email address in order to notify me about their latest product.

Secure your website

By Timothy Bowes with 2 reader notes

What follows is aimed specifically at webmasters and bloggers running self-hosted websites using the open-source CMS, WordPress, but I am sure there are general principles here that can benefit others. If you have a self-hosted weblog or website, there are two things that really should be your priority: beefing up your security and having some sort of backup process in place. All in all, this is a modest plea to my respected writers: before disaster strikes, take a few steps to protect your website so I can carry on reading what you have to say to my heart’s content.

Must we condemn? Yes we must

By Timothy Bowes with 6 reader notes

Two Muslim authors have told us today that we must not condemn the terrorist atrocities carried out in India yesterday: Umar Lee argues that American Muslims should not condemn them and Yusuf Smith that Western Muslims should not. They both argue their case effectively and I can see where they are coming from, but I [...]

Footnote

By Timothy Bowes with 7 reader notes

If you go to the website of particularly attractive Linux distribution today, you will discover a curious message at the foot of every page: ‘Would you kill for your God? God does not exist! [ Face it! ] [ One more! ]‘ ‘Face it!’ provides a link to a documentary by Richard Dawkins entitled, ‘Root of all Evil’ which has been uploaded to YouTube. ‘Once more!’ provides a link to a presentation labelled, ’10 questions that every intelligent Christian must answer’.

Things are not always as they seem

By Timothy Bowes with one reader note

Award-winning columnist Johann Hari has a piece in today’s Independent entitled We need to stop being such cowards about Islam. By 10.00am this morning it was the most emailed, read and commented article on their website. It is, he says, a column condemning cowardice: “It begins with the story of a novel you cannot read.”

Bishop Akinola

By Timothy Bowes

There has been a lot of coverage of the Global Anglican Future Conference in Jerusalem over the past few days and of the remarks of Bishop Peter Akinola inparticular. Those who applaud the bishop for his ‘conservative’ views ought to be made aware of what these include.

Vanity

By Timothy Bowes with 3 reader notes

You know you have a problem with your ego when: 1.) You find yourself checking the site statistics on your website twice a day; 2.) You keep logging into the control panel to see if anyone has left a comment; 3.) A friend lists their favourite websites and you’re upset that yours is not mentioned; [...]
